Nissan GTR meets Audi R8?

As always the 2014 Paris Motor Show was a huge success and included a bunch of surprises from almost every major automobile manufacturer.  Some of the more radical surprises came from Lamborghini  with their new LPI 910-4 Asterion and the Infiniti Q80 Concept.  However, one car that attracted huge crowds was the all new concept supercar from Volkswagen.

The back has a striking resemblance to the Maserati MC12.

Volkswagen might not be new to making supercars, as its sisters companies produce cars like the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Avantador and the Porsche GT3, but VW itself has not produced a supercar in over a decade.   This makes the arrival of the “XL Sport” even more appealing and with the infusion of a Ducati power plant and lambo doors this was one of the biggest highlights at the Paris Motor Show.

As with any supercar, the VW XL Sport has a menacing front fascia.

When we think about the typical supercar we think huge power numbers, large displacements engines spitting fire, but that is not the case with the all new XL Sport.  This car will not incorporate anything close to what we think a supercar must have.   Instead this supercar will be powered by Ducati and a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter V-twin engine.  It might not have supercar power numbers, at a mere 197hp, but with the use of large amount of carbon fiber they were able to lighten the car enough to reach 60mph in under 5.7 seconds, and with a top speed of 168mph!

A true supercar simplistic interior, with a bit of class with the wooden shift lever.

No supercar from VW is complete without Lambo Doors.
